Calendar

The calendar is everything with a moment in it: what is coming, and what has already happened. An entry is one moment, so a calendar and a timeline are the same records read two ways.

What appears on it

Every entry, whatever kind it is: a consultation, a weight, a note, a photograph, an activity, or a course of medicine.

A course is a series. It carries a rule, such as every 12 hours for five days, and the calendar works its occurrences out from that rule. The occurrences are not stored, so correcting the rule corrects all of them at once and nothing has to be edited one by one. Nothing counts them either: the rule says what was prescribed, and an activity records what was actually given.

An entry with no rule is a single moment. It can still last longer than an instant, and it can be an all day entry.

One occurrence at a time

An occurrence is one moment a series worked out. It has no record of its own; it is identified by the series and the moment the rule computed, so it is still the same occurrence after it is moved.

You can change one occurrence without touching the rest of the series:

  • Skip it, for a dose that was not given or a visit that did not happen.
  • Move it, to another day or hour.
  • Note it, to say what was different about that one.
  • Change who was there, adding or removing somebody for that occurrence.
  • Give it its own reminders, instead of the ones the series carries.

Everything you leave alone stays the series', so a correction to the series reaches every occurrence that has not singled itself out.

Filtering

  • A group shows its own entries and its animals', with a joint visit drawn once rather than once for each animal that went.
  • An animal shows its own record.
  • With nothing chosen, it shows everything you can reach.

A group and an animal also carry a short list of what is coming, drawn from the same calendar.

Reminders and the people

A reminder is a number and a unit counted back from the moment, such as 15 minutes before or 1 day before. There can be several on an entry, on an outing, or on a single occurrence, and the platform fires each one in the notification bell.

The people who take part belong to the entry, or to the outing when several animals were seen together. See Entries.

Your own calendar application

A group's or an animal's calendar can be subscribed to from the calendar you already use, or downloaded as a file. See Calendar feeds.
