Archives

An archive is one zip holding everything a group or an animal is: its own record, its animals or its entries, the files attached to them, and the catalogue words they use. A manifest.json at its root names the format, its version, and what the archive is about.

It is how a record leaves an instance: to move a group to another Kinkeep, or to keep a copy of one on a disk of your own.

Taking one

An archive is asked for from the record itself:

  • A group: the menu on the group's screen, then Export archive.
  • An animal: the menu on the animal's screen, then Export archive.

Only a coordinator or a manager may ask for one. An archive is the whole record leaving the instance, so it is not something a collaborator can take.

Packing happens in the background, and takes longer for a group with a lot of photographs. The confirmation says so, and the Tasks screen is where you follow it and download the file once it is ready.

What is in it, and what is not

In: the group or the animal, its entries with their bodies, participants and reminders, the visits those records belong to, the files attached to them, the group's tags, its people as names and roles, its affiliations, its scheduled jobs, and the catalogue words it uses.

Not in: the ledger. Money is read by coordination and management alone, and an archive that anybody who may reach the group can ask for would hand it to somebody else. It is not in this version.

Importing

Reading an archive back into an instance is not built yet; it is on the roadmap. Until then, an archive is a copy, not a restore.
